New Year’s Eve

The past year is over, and it was a tough one in so many ways

But we are tough people, and we can, and we will survive

Let us all enter the new year with a renewed energy and enthusiasm for life

And with a positive frame of mind and love and support

for our country, our new leaders

And for our fellow man and their thoughts and ideas

Even if they differ from ours

Let us be the hope and change we are seeking in life

Realizing that we cannot assign this work and responsibility to others alone

And may we never forget our brothers and sisters and neighbors and friends

Who lost their lives to a ravaging virus that seemed to spare no one in its wake?

We may have celebrated alone this year, apart from those we love

But in our hearts and in our minds, we are together tonight

And will remain together as we enter this new and bright year.
