The Olympic games–a nationwide PEOPLE meeting

“When a photographer can’t change a scene, he changes his angles and lens to capture the best of that scene. Similarly, when you can’t change a situation in your life, change your perspective to get the best out of that situation.  When we shift our perspective, it helps us to accept things better, reduce our pain, cope with our situation and move forward with our life with courage” Random quote from “Writers and Authors” on LinkedIn

Watching the athletes competing in the various sports in the Olympics makes one realize the value of a milli-second in life.  One wrong twist of your knees, one tiny, unnoticeable mishap on your dance move on the ice, one deep breath when you should have been exhaling and you receive deductions that wipe away a lifetime of training.  And we thought construction was stressful.  The heartaches of the competitors are hard to accept at times, but you have to admire the inner strength and the courage of the competitors to continue in the race, to complete the dance, to smile for the camera as the scores are announced.

These athletes are an inspiration and a reminder that life does not always go as we would like but the clock keeps moving anyway, the day turns into night, and the sun rises the next morning to erase the missteps of yesterday.  We are never beaten, just slowed down a bit in our quest for gold, the medal is still out there waiting for us.  Maybe we just need to change our perspective, look at life from a different angle.

What I love most about watching the Olympic games is the acceptance of defeat by those falling less than a second short, and the smiles and hugs of affection for the winner, regardless of race or country of origin.  People of all nations gather in one place, competing against each other, accepting each other, hugging each other, congratulating each other, and understanding each other.  It is really not all that complicated, we are all just PEOPLE.

Let us all learn from these Olympics.  When the curtain closes in a few short days, let us all keep the spirit of these inspiring athletes in mind as we continue to compete in the daily game of life.
