Anniversary PEOPLE Meeting

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to PEOPLE

Join many in the industry as we celebrate the eighth anniversary of PEOPLE on Tuesday, March 8, 4:00 to 5:30.  The meeting will be virtual, hosted by Steve Lewis of AGCMO via ZOOM and that link is included below.  I will resend this link the day before the meeting for all those like me that tend to lose these things in a maze of emails.

The PEOPLE agenda is quite simple—we just want to get the minority contracting community and the majority players in our industry in one room–or one screen–and meet each other, talk with each other, get to know each other, and ultimately work with each other.  No speeches, no power point presentation, no charts, no graphs—just PEOPLE talking to PEOPLE.  All are welcome to join the call and we hope you do and make yourself known to the marketplace. If you are reading this and find yourself asking if this is a meeting I should attend; will this meeting make a difference in my life, in my company—the answer is YES.  I guarantee everyone that you will meet someone, make at least one meaningful contact, and somewhere down the short or long road of construction, a project will fall in your lap as a result of this meeting.

Orv Kimbrough of Midwest BankCentre had a great article on the Post-Dispatch editorial page this morning where he quotes from a recent job trend prediction from Glassdoor…”diversity and inclusion will become a major priority for a broad swath of employers in the coming year as they seek to modernize their corporate culture and attract new employees; managers will help carry forward the mission of building a more diverse and inclusive workforce.”  Orv finishes his informational piece by saying when “politicians, boards, C-suites, entrepreneurs and business owners reflect our demographic diversity…it is about creating opportunities.  It is about creating wealth.  It is about creating security.  It is about doing away with the economic fragility that certain communities disproportionately face.  And ultimately, it is about the competitiveness of our nation.  This is how we win the footrace.”  I agree with Orv.

So, this is the year for DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION (DEI).  Corporate leaders and major business owners are paying attention.  Will you be in the hunt or will you be on the sidelines?  Jump on this call and tell us who you are, why you are and where you want to go.  My goal is to have the major GC’s and owners in this marketplace on the call to listen and take notes.  

I wish we could do this in person so we could hug each other at the end of the discussions but I am told that time has yet to arrive.  Will it ever arrive?
